Great Faith |
Have we ever noticed how a story of the great faith of a Gentile woman (
Matthew 15:10-28) was placed immediately after a story of Peter’s little faith (
Matthew 14:22-33)? The inspired contrast is even more poignant when we understand that Peter was a Jew with lifelong living under the teachings of the Old Testament. He was also in the midst of personal training under the Son of God. They came across a persistent Gentile woman who had not grown up in the “right” church and probably did not keep the law of God. Yet, Jesus described her faith as great and Peter’s as little. Was there something important missing from the disciples, even though they had the Old Testament and the blessing of personal training with Jesus? Faith transcends the law and even our knowledge of Jesus’ teachings.
