Aggressive Faith |
Some people are known for their aggressive nature. Others are known for their passivity. Although aggression can be hostile and abusive, there is appropriate aggression, even with God. The writer to the Hebrews encouraged them to come boldly before the throne of grace (
Hebrews 4:15-16). The Gentile woman with a mentally ill daughter aggressively pursued Jesus for healing (
Matthew 15:10-28). We can understand a mother’s insistence for her child. She was not going to take no for an answer. It takes faith to go back to God in prayer after he seems to have told us no. Maternal aggression is not well understood by science. It is believed that lactation somehow decreases fear. No matter the hormonal cause, the lesson here is that aggression with God is at times encouraged and appropriate. He loves to see our faith.
