Criticism of Leadership

Helping Pastors Cope

One of the great weaknesses of democracy is that it encourages criticism of leadership and thus sows the seeds of its own destruction. When such criticism enters the Church it also sows destruction. Let it be a given that Church leaders will be faulty and make mistakes. Let it also be a given that there will be corruption. Let is also be a given that Jesus expects us to show grace towards our Church leaders for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. If the story of Jesus walking on the water (Matthew 14:22-33) could be viewed as a metaphor for Church leadership, we may find only one in twelve with the faith to walk on water, and even that one would falter in faith. Let us pray for Church leadership and show them the grace that Jesus shows.
