As Jesus is the cornerstone upon which the Church is built, so are his teachings the unifying cornerstone of Christian doctrine.

Divisive Infallibility

Papal Infallibility: A Protestant Evaluation of an Ecumenical Issue
Papal Infallibility
Infallibility is not just a claim made for some teachings of the Catholic Church. It has also been made for doctrinal committee statements and pronouncements of televangelists. Some say that it is a sin to question particular church leaders. Instead of humbly admitting that we might be wrong, we hide behind pretentious infallibility, a doctrine that the Bible does not teach of any human church leader or their pronouncements ex-cathedra, ex-committee or ex-television. The unity that Jesus prayed for in his Church (John 17:1-11) will not come about by force of authoritarianism, but by repentance. Will we admit that we are unified at the cross and that our traditions and opinions are altogether fallible? If so, then maybe one great cause of disunity in the Church can gradually disappear. But that might be difficult, because it would take humility.
