Preaching Manual |
What kind of sermon should a person give? It could be a testimonial, textual expository, textual exegesis, topical, ethical treatise, praise, humorous, revival, jewel, ladder, contrast, Hegelian, analogy, proof, rebuttal, refrain, fight, subversive, impromptu or a host of other styles. However the content should very often include something of what Jesus gave as a guideline for what ought to be taught in the Church. In
Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus outlined the Great Commission which contains instructions as to the content of sermons, Bible studies and Sunday School classes. The content is simple: He told his disciples to teach others to observe what he had commanded them. We have a record of those instructions in the Gospels. How can we systematically preach and teach the Gospels? There is a wonderful tool which helps us obey Jesus called the
three year lectionary.
