In John 17:1-11 Jesus prayed for unity. Why is there disunity? As long as Eastern and Oriental Orthodox emphasize ancient traditions more than Jesus, as long as Catholics emphasize Rome more than Jesus, as long as Anglicans emphasize pomp more than Jesus, as long as Presbyterians emphasize Calvinism more than Jesus, as long as Methodists emphasize Wesley more than Jesus, as long as Seventh Day Adventists emphasize Sabbath more than Jesus, as long as Baptists emphasize rules more than Jesus, as long as Lutherans emphasize Luther more than Jesus, as long as Anabaptists emphasize strictness more than Jesus, and as long as Pentecostals emphasize tongues and miracles more than Jesus there will be disunity. There are many people in all these traditions who understand what is important. They put Jesus first and live the unity that he prayed for.
